What is Cannabis?

Cannabis AKA Marijuana, weed, Pot, Hash, Devil’s Lettuce, Mary Jane, Green, Ganja, Grass, Dope, Herb refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds from the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant. The plant contains the mind-altering chemical THC and other similar compounds. Extracts can also be made from the cannabis plant.

Medicinal & recreational?

It’s important to understand that the products available on both the Recreational (Rec) and Medical (Med) sides of dispensaries are essentially the same. There are some misconceptions that medical products are more potent or “cleaner,” but this is not true.

The main difference between Rec and Med is that state regulations allow medical customers to buy higher doses of cannabis per visit and pay lower taxes. To shop on the Rec side, you must be at least 21 years old and have a valid form of ID, such as a driver’s license, ID card, or passport.

However, to shop on the Med side, you need to have a Colorado-issued form of identification and a medical marijuana card issued by the state after visiting a medical marijuana doctor. This card is also known as a medical card or mmj card in Colorado and other states. You can qualify for a medical marijuana card once you turn 18, but not all dispensaries allow medical patients aged 18-21. In such cases, the Med and Rec sides of the dispensary must be completely separate from each other.

Cannabis Indica

Is highly regarded for its beneficial properties, especially for those who prefer a more relaxing and sedative experience. Its higher CBD: THC ratio makes it an excellent option for individuals seeking relief from body pain, anxiety, and nausea. Additionally, it can help increase appetite and promote a good night’s sleep, making it an ideal choice for those looking to unwind after a long day.

How is Cannabis used?

People smoke cannabis in hand-rolled cigarettes (joints or pre-rolls), in pipes, or in water pipes (bongs). They also smoke it in blunts—emptied cigars that have been partly or completely refilled with cannabis. To avoid inhaling smoke, some people are using vaporizers. These devices pull the active ingredients (including THC) from the marijuana and collect their vapor in a storage unit. A person then inhales the vapor, not the smoke. Some vaporizers use a liquid marijuana extract.

People can mix cannabis in food (edibles), such as brownies, cookies, or candy, or brew it as a tea. A newly popular method of use is smoking or eating different forms of THC-rich resin.

Why is lab testing important?

To make an informed decision about trying out a cannabis strain, it’s important to understand its unique characteristics. This is where lab testing proves to be helpful. All cannabis sold in legal dispensaries undergoes thorough lab testing to determine its cannabinoid and terpene profile. The testing also ensures that the strain is free of harmful chemicals like pesticides and fungicides, which can pose a risk to health. Lab testing not only helps you determine the composition of your chosen cannabis strain, but it also assures you that the cannabis you consume is safe, regardless of the strain you choose.
